STORYTELLING
I’m a storyteller at heart. I like nothing better than to sit down with a pencil and a notebook and write out the first drumbeats of a story. That could be a script, a news article or a long-form piece of creative writing – if there’s a story, I can feel its pulse.
Storytelling began for me as a child when I famously, among our family at least, wrote a story about a bear that lived in a tent and ate jam sandwiches. It was a variation on a more famous theme, but I knew, aged four, that I had to tell stories, even if they were inspired by someone else.
As a sportswriter and podcaster, I’m still inspired by some of the best super-human feats of all. Telling stories is how we connect to each other, how we learn, empathize, inspire and entertain. If I can find the right words to keep you reading, to conjure the cliffhanger to keep you listening, then I have played my part
